About New Light

A space for seeing things differently.

We believe healing happens when you stop trying to fix yourself — and start trying to understand yourself.

Our story

Therapy that doesn't sound like therapy.

New Light Counseling was founded on a simple idea: most people don't need more advice. They need someone to actually listen, and a space to understand themselves more deeply.

We started this practice because we wanted therapy to feel human — not clinical, not scripted, not surface-level. We work with people who've been around the block: they've read the books, tried the apps, maybe even done therapy before. They're not looking for hacks. They're looking for someone who'll go a little deeper with them.

That's what we do here. Slow, real, thoughtful work — for the people who are ready for it.

About New Light

Three principles guiding our work.

Patterns, not symptoms

Symptoms are a signal, not the source. We help you understand the deeper patterns shaping how you think, feel, and react — so change comes from within.

The relationship is the work

We don't just treat you — we sit with you. The connection we build together is part of how the healing actually happens. That's not soft; that's the science.

Slow is fast

Real change isn't a 6-week formula. We work at the pace your nervous system can handle — and that's exactly why it actually works

Common questions

Questions you might be holding.

Therapy is a big step. Here are the things people often want to know before reaching out.

  • Our first session is our chance to meet face to face — whether that's in-person or virtually through video. We'll go over your personal history, the concerns that bring you in, and what you hope to get out of counseling and the therapeutic process.

If you have specific goals, we can talk those through. And if you're not sure yet, that's fine — together we'll get to know one another and make sure we're a good fit. If for some reason we find we are not a good fit, we'll provide referrals for someone who may be a better match for you.

  • The therapy hour is 50 minutes long, so around the 50-minute mark we'll be wrapping up our session. We'll keep track of time on our end, but there are clocks visible if you'd like to keep track too.

  • How long you'll be in therapy and how often you come in is something that's unique to everyone. Typically therapy is most powerful and beneficial when sessions are conducted on a weekly basis. Depending on your goals, we can discuss what your realistic expectations can be.

  • We believe counseling should be affordable for all. We offer a small number of spots that are available for sliding scale clients. When making your appointment, you may request a sliding scale option. If there are no current spots available, you'll be offered a spot on the waitlist or a referral to another counselor who may have sliding scale options.

  • Our session fees range from $85 to $175, depending on the therapist and the type of service.

We are also in network with Aetna and Cigna. We offer different options to make therapy accessible:

Sessions with our Registered Interns typically range from $85 to $125. Sessions with our Licensed Therapist range from $125 to $175. We're happy to discuss what works best for your needs and budget — just reach out!

  • A Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI) is a highly trained therapist who has completed a master's degree in counseling or a related field and is working under supervision to complete the final requirements for full licensure. RMHCIs are qualified to provide therapy, diagnose mental health conditions, and use evidence-based treatment approaches — just like licensed therapists.

The key difference is simply that RMHCIs are in the final stages of their clinical journey. In fact, many RMHCIs bring fresh, up-to-date training, a strong passion for the field, and close collaboration with licensed supervisors who oversee their work to ensure the highest quality of care. This means you benefit from not just one, but two mental health professionals reviewing your care.

Clients often find that RMHCIs offer the same level of support, insight, and effectiveness as licensed therapists — and sometimes more flexible scheduling and reduced rates. It's a smart, compassionate option for quality care that doesn't compromise on experience or dedication.

  • Yes — secure telehealth is available across Florida. Many clients prefer it for the flexibility. In-person sessions are also available in our Altamonte Springs office.

  • Yes — fully and unequivocally. We work with all identities, all relationship structures, all bodies. This is a space where you don't have to explain or justify who you are.
